Are You Sabotaging Yourself?

A couple quick question. Are you sabotaging yourself and cheating yourself from acquiring your fitness goals?  Are you giving your best? How is our attitude?

So often when it comes to physical fitness we sabotage ourselves by only giving 70% – 80% effort. If you are a formal athlete you are likely thinking, “No! I give 100% every time I step into the gym! Shut your mouth!” My gentle rebuttal would be, “What are you eating on a consistent basis?” Chances are you need to shut your mouth, lol. I know this because it describes me…;-). In my experience, former athletes have 0 problem working hard in the studio. They will do anything I ask and work themselves to exhaustion and beyond, sometimes I even need to slow them down a touch so they don’t over do it. But…when it comes to consistently making good eating choices they struggle. They end up sabotaging themselves by eating to much.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have those who are not used to working out and find it exhausting and hard. They would much rather eat chicken breast and broccoli and avoid exerting themselves. Plus, often times they are scared and intimidated to workout because they simply don’t know what to do. They are afraid they will hurt themselves and as result they only put out 70%- 80% effort, when really they are capable of so much more. They end up sabotaging themselves by not working hard enough.

Then, you have those in the middle. This is where most of us live :-). We just don’t like to be uncomfortable. When we workout, we workout hard-ish, but we know we could have given more. When we eat, we know we should eat less, but eat more any way. We end up sabotaging ourselves, because we are fickle and inconsistent.

Today, I would like to lovely challenge you to give 100%. This is a HUGE ASK, I know! I so wish it were easy! But unfortunately, it is not easy! Choosing to order vegetables and a lean protein when out with friends who are eating Nachos is hard. Plus, there is always some miracle pill, supplement, piece of equipment that is advertised on infomercials or in magazines that promises amazing results, with little sacrifice or effort. Losing weight and/or getting fit is not easy! If it were, everyone would look like Hollywood stars.

Are you familiar with the story of Cain and Abel in the Bible? They both made sacrifices to God. God found Abel’s sacrifice pleasing and Cain’s lacking. Why? Because Abel gave God his best, he gave God 100% effort. Cain on the other hand did not, his motivations and attitude sucked and God knew it. God even pursued Cain and warned him to change his ways otherwise more bad would come about. And, as many of you already, Cain got angry and jealous of Abel and killed him.

Just like Cain and Abel, you have a choice. You can choose to give 100%. You can choose to consistently eat right or not. You can choose to consistently workout or not. You can choose to follow your training and nutrition plan or not.

Once again, I am challenging you to give 100%. Doing so will help you reach your fitness goals much faster and help you rid yourself of the pain and frustration you feel when you get on the scale.

I know this is a little tough love ;-). But you can do this! I believe in you! Do you believe in yourself? Do you think you are strong enough to give 100%?

As always, go be awesome!
