Struggle on the Weekends…and Weekdays???

Yesterday I was talking with a new client and I asked her what her biggest challenge was and she said, the weekend…eating out.

I wasn’t surprised, most people struggle eating well over the weekend, especially when they eat out.

That is why it is so important to shape your physical environment. The less temptation you have the less you will cave. You wouldn’t trust an addict with drugs, you shouldn’t trust yourself with chocolate cake ;-).

With that in mind, we eat or make eating decisions in basically 4 places or environments.

  • Grocery store
  • Workplace
  • Restaurants
  • Home

So, if you really want to make your life and losing weight easier…I want you to think about each location above and answer the following questions.

  1. What can you do to make healthier options more visible, convenient, and nearer to you? (Write those ideas down)
  2. What can you do to make unhealthy foods less visible, convenient, and physically inaccessible to you? (write those ideas down)

The client above and I decided that on the weekend when she goes out she will look at the menu online beforehand and choose a healthy item. Then she will make sure to decline a menu when she is seated and place her order ahead of time so that she wouldn’t be tempted by what her friends get.

What about you? Take…ACTION!

Make at least one change to your physical environment based on one of the ideas you came up with from above.
