Eat at least this much fat…

So far my wife is loving her new  job. I think that is largely do to her extreme organization. She created a 3 week meal plan, 3 week grocery list, a list of healthy snacks to create, and a daily schedule of what she needs to do to be ready for the following day.  Al she has to do is open the fridge and grab her lunch bag and/or snack and walk out the door…so efficient.

In short, having a plan and sticking to it makes your life easier and less chaotic.

Which is….WHy Habit 8 – eating 15 – 20 grams of fat at each meal (3 meals) is worth it and you should do it ;-).

Eating 15 to 20 grams of fat at each meal means you are consuming about 30% of calories from fat, which is neither low or high.

A high fat diet is generally defined as a diet composed of 40% fat.  Which is not ideal, because statics show that if your diet is composed of 40% fat, the chances of you being and staying overweight goes up…a lot.

Why? In a nutshell, it increases the chances of you overeating. Having a diet high fat makes it easy to overeat. Think about cheese and peanut butter, one oz of cheese has 6 to 8 grams of fat alone!  Two tablespoons of peanut butter has 18 grams of fat!

Also, I diet high in fat has been shown to cause leptin resistance, which means your body is full but your mind says, “I NEED and WANT more!” Sound familiar? I battle this everyday.

Low fat diets are also, less ideal over an extended period of time.

Mainly because it is hard to stay full when your diet consists of 25% or less fat. Trust me, I am currently on my 12 Week Fitness Model Fat Loss system and I am at 20%, it is hard to stay full.  As a result, those who try to stay on low fat diets for an extended period of time often end up overeating on things like sugar and simple carbohydrates.

So the magic number seems to be 30%!…Assuming you are not trying to get super lean (like a fitness model). It also allows you to eat good filling food without overdoing it and short circuiting your system.

To quote Georgie Fear, “In the long term, research supports that people on moderate-fat diets lose more weight and body fat than fat avoiders; they also stick to their diet longer without quitting than those who use a low-fat approach.” All great reasons to eat 15 – 20 grams of fat at each meal ;-)!

Go be awesome!
