When I was Kid I Wanted to be a…….? What about YOU?

My wife started her new job yesterday at Novant. I am pretty sure I was more excited about it than she was lol. I love starting new things and the desire to learn and do something new always excites me. I am kind of weird in that regard, most people hate a change and fear anything new.

I was both blessed and cursed with a background were I was forced to adapt to change and thus get used to it. You too can adapt to change and overcome fear both in live and in the weight room ;-).

It is rare, but when I do start to get fearful and doubt myself I remind myself of what God has led me though and things He has helped me become victorious over.

That is what inspired today’s question. “When I was a kid, I wanted to be a professional athlete.” I went through phases, first it was a professional soccer player, because after all, I was in Brazil. Later in life it was a Football player.

My life is full of twists and turns and it boggles my mind with the amount of jobs I have had lol. I am only 35 years old, I have been blessed with a lifetime experience. I lived in Brazil and worked as a concrete mixer at the age of 13…yes, I mixed concrete by hand. Not easy, worth the whole $0.50 an hour I earned lol.

When I came back to the States I worked as a construction worker in the summers in between High School and College. Much easier work then back in Brazil lol.

Once I graduated College I went and taught English in South Korea for a year as the “Head Foreign Teacher.” Great title right, ;-)? It was epic, I met my wife of 10 plus wonderful years there ;-)! She is from Greensboro which is why we live in this awesome area.

Upon returning to the US, I attended Offer Candidate School with the Marines and then Officer Development School with Navy to become a Navy Chaplain.  Best worst experiences of my life ;-), learned to be a leader and take responsibility.

While in graduate school, all 98 credit hours of it, I worked as a substitute teacher, strength and conditioning coach, and an intern Hospital Chaplain and Counselor. Upon graduation I got hired as a PE and Health Teacher, 6 months later I was promoted to Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.

As you can see, change was a major staple of my life as such I have grown used to it and sometimes even crave something new and exciting. But, after all those experiences I can safely say that I NOW have my dream job!

My dream is being a personal trainer who gets to work with amazing clients and guide them to overcome and do much more than they ever thought or imaged. I love what I do and I am so happy it became a reality.

The whole point of the story is, change is necessary for growth and it also demonstrates that getting to where you want to be…often looks very different and often takes a lot longer than we think. It will.

But if you live, learn, make mistakes, and grow. You will succeed, AS LONG AS YOU DON’T QUIT!

Alright, now a quick weight loss tip.

Portion control is huge and is often overlooked. Last week you learned that the law of energy balance says you will gain weight if you eat too many calories…regardless of the kind of calories you eat.

Now, assuming you are tracking your calories you should be good to go UNLESS…you aren’t measuring, weighting, or documenting the food accurately. Yes, even condiments have calories ;-).

Often times the only thing that is stopping a client from reaching their happy number is portion control and guesstimating portions.

Getting lean and toned requires you to be disciplined….even when my wife makes her famous homemade Mac and Cheese or…when you get challenged to eat a huge piece of chocolate cake…which I destroyed fyi.

Plus, if you want to keep it really simple. Only eat until you are 80% full. This is simple, but not easy…Or eat 1 fist of Protein, 1 palm of carbs, and 2 thumbs of fat.

Go be awesome!

KELLEN LAKE – Living my dream ;-).

PS – Thank YOU all for allowing me to help you ;-)!
