6 Tips To Make Eating Healthy A Little Easier…Like My 3 Year Old

I am still trying to catch up after being on vacation last week so I am going to give you six tips that will make eating healthy a little bit easier. But first a funny story about planning brought to you by my 3 year old daughter Kenna.

Kenna goes to preschool and she has designated backpack that she only takes to school and back. Well last Friday Kenna got all of her plastic toys and stuffed them in her “home” backpack, the one she can can play with and destroy. No harm, no foul…yet.

On Friday my dad drives her and her brother to pre-school. My dad asked Kenna which backpack she needed and Kenna looked him in the face and said, “This one” (the “home” backpack stuffed with 100’s of toys) and jumped out of the van and went to school. My dad didn’t know any different and life goes on.

Well, when we go to pick up Kenna that afternoon, I notice a whole bunch of kids crowded around Kenna. Then I noticed a whole bunch of toys all over the grass, and the worst part…I notice the teacher going over to get Kenna in line to get picked up…the teacher stops looks all around and starts to madly toss toys into Kenna’s bag. It took that poor teacher about 2 minutes…I was embarrassed and felt bad. However, looking back on it now, it was pretty funny and something I will likely never forget.

So, the moral of the story is, if my 3 year old daughter can plan, so can you ;-)! As promised, here are six tips to help make eating healthy easier.

  1. Look at your agenda for tomorrow and plan your day in advance. This will not only allow eating healthy easier it will make your entire day easier. If you get distracted and end up on Facebook and don’t remember what you are supposed to be doing…guess what? All you have to do is look at your agenda and get after it.
  2. Based on your agenda schedule a “meeting” with your meals and don’t cancel them ;-). Doing so will give you mini goals to shoot for. Are you getting hungry and tempted to eat your co-workers bowl of Halloween candy? Look at your agenda, only 40 minutes before your next meal. You can totally wait it out ;-).
  3. Have all your meals prepared and ready to go the night before or the morning of (Just like Kenna with her toys). That way, not only do you know when you will eat, you will also know what you will eat, and how much. This too will help keep you from buying and eating random things. How often do you leave for work with no food on you? Your plan is, “I will just see what happens.” and you know what happens? Your waistline increases. Let’s avoid that.
  4. Cook in bulk. Cooking in bulk will make all the above much easier to implement. Be like my awesome wife. She cooks on average one meal a day, but she cooks enough for leftovers for the following day’s lunch. I suggest you do the same.
  5. Make sure you have lots of healthy foods on hand and you get rid of all the tempting stuff you are doomed to eat if you don’t throw it out. This will make the food that is calorie dense less convenient, farther away from you, and out of your sight. Which equals a leaner, thinner you ;-).
  6. If you will be traveling, plan ahead. Apply all the above and pack your food. A sandwich can be a great easy healthy meal if prepared with the end in mind.

Don’t wing it, winging it generally makes your weight loss slower, be like Kenna and be prepared ;-).

Now go be awesome!
