Beware! Doctor warns Spanx are making your tummy and butt soft and squishy!

As most of you know, the fam and I are at the beach for Kenna’s 4th birthday. Vacations are great, you get to relax, slow down, and wake up at the crack of dawn because you have a 5 and 4 year old who refuse to relax and slow down lol ;-).

Any way, I was up “supervising” and by supervising I mean drinking coffee and watching the news when I saw an interview with a doctor that got my attention. It was about the danger of wearing “Spanx’s!”

Sorry, you probably just spit out your coffee or tea, I know, who knew wearing Spanx’s could harm you and actually make your butt and tummy soft and squishy? Once I heard the reasons why, it made 100% sense and reminded me of my athletic trainer college.

Back in college, when I played football our athletic trainer rarely allowed us to use braces (Spanx’s act as a brace for your core and butt muscles) of any sort. Even when he did allow it, he would put time constraints how long you could use a brace. The reason being, braces help create stability, which is what your muscles are supposed do. If you overuse the brace and your body gets used to the brace or spanxs, the muscles will get weaker and smaller because they aren’t “needed” anymore.

Warning!

If you are wearing Spanxs 24/7 you are de-training your tummy and butt muscles. Instead of flexing and being active, your core and butt muscles are becoming dormant, which will make them weaker and smaller which will result in a soft and squishy tummy and butt. Not ideal! In this case, “If you don’t use them, you will lose them.”

I know, bad news right?

The good news is you don’t need to throw your Spanxs out, but you should limit how much you are wearing them. I would suggest only wearing them for 2-3 hours at time and only on special occasions…like game day lol.

Sorry, to be the bearer of bad news, blame the doctor ;-).

Go be awesome!

Kellen Lake – To Spanx or not to Spanx? That is not a question any more ;-).
