Mrs. Brown lost 3 lbs by eating more protein and logging her food.

Today’s post is short and sweet.

A client of mine lost 3 lb in the course of 3 days (NOT TYPICAL). The same client had previously been stuck on the same weight for about 3 weeks.

The good news was that she been faithfully logging her food and documenting everything that she consumed. This allowed us to have data to see what was keeping her stuck at her current weight.

Now, an important side note, unlike most people, this client actually logged everything she put into her mouth. So we had real day to day data. It wasn’t, “I had some of this and I had some of that.” It was real data and her calories were low enough that she should have been losing weight.

So, when we looked at the data we had two choices.

One, she could restrict her calories even more, which I wasn’t a huge fan of. Because once you restrict your calories too much where you go from there? I’ll tell you where you go, you go to starvation mode which kind of kills your metabolism. We don’t want that.

Or option number 2, we can improve her macro-nutrients by increasing she protein intake. Previously, this client had been losing weight simply by making sure she stayed under a certain number of calories. Now, instead of making her calories lower, we improved the quality of her calories. All we did was set a protein goal, I asked her if she would be comfortable consuming at least 75 to 100 grams of protein a day.

She said that she would be comfortable doing this and that’s what she did. As a direct result, she’s consumed less carbohydrates, which was really what it was keeping her stuck at her body weight. She started eating more protein, which meant she was consuming about the same amount of calories…BUT….she was able to lose more weight.

Moral of the story, log your food so you can make well-educated decisions on how best to proceed given your goals.
