Are Your Hormones Out of Whack?

Hormones are Like a Jacked UPS guy who is also a Vampire…

Today we are talking about hormones.

Hormones are both a blessing and a curse. When they’re finely-tuned and function like they’re supposed to they are a phenomenal blessing. However when they are out of whack, they are a major pain in the butt.

To help you understand Hormones and their complicated path I’m going to break it down. The first thing you need to understand is want endocrine glands do. Endocrine glands create hormones, that is what they do. So when you hear endocrine glands think of a factory that creates hormones.

All right, so we know where hormones come from. Now we’re going to answer the question what a hormone is and what it does. A hormone is like a jacked UPS Vampire with big bulging muscles and ripped washboard abs. When you think of a hormone, that’s what I want you to visualize a big hunky looking UPS guy. Why? Because hormones are chemicals that essentially deliver specail, urgent messages throughout entire body via your bloodstream. The hormones need to act fast, be able to beat down adversaries, and have a working relationship with blood. Thus, when you think of hormones, you think jacked UPS Vampire guy.

Now to make it even more complicated every individual hormone. Every individually roided-out UPS vampire has a certain address, or specific special message that can only be delivered to a certain kind of cell or “mailbox.”  That means if a hormone does not have the right code it will not cause the cell to react in the way it is supposed to. This means if the factory (endocrine glands) screws up the address it won’t get to the desires mailbox (cell). Or it will take the message a long time to get to the mailbox and it may be to late.

In short, hormones are extremely powerful. It only takes a little bit delivered to your body for a big reaction to occur. Also, our roided-out UPS vampire hormones cannot be stored. If you don’t use them, you lose them. These hormones get pushed out from the endocrine glands and must be absorbed pretty much immediately.

SUPERMAN!

Think of this process kind of like Superman. Superman responds when there is an emergency when something bad happens. If Superman shows up and the bad thing has already happened, Superman really can’t do anything about it. And he’s not going to stay around dressed up like Superman forever waiting for the next bad thing to happen, he has to get on with the rest of his life. That’s kind of like how a hormone reacts once it’s produced from your endocrine gland. It has to do something or it’s just going to fade out and die.

As you can hopefully see, if any of these delicate systems become out of balance it just gets flat-out crazy inside your body. So there has to be a complicated system of checks and balances that occur on a second-by-second, day-by-day basis, for all of this to stay on track. To say it’s complicated would be a huge understatement, but you kind of get what I’m putting down I hope.

What happens when something goes wrong?

  • First off, hormone imbalances generally occur in middle aged individuals.
  • Second, the most common symptoms for women is low estrogen and low progesterone. When a woman has low levels of the above hormones that’s when they have their hot flashes, bone density issues, become fatigued easily, and generally gain weight. Those are just some of the many examples.
  • Third, the most common symptom for a man is low testosterone. When a man’s testosterone levels get low they will generally suffer from a decrease in sex drive, as well as have infertility issues.
  • Fourth, another hormone that really screws with people is insulin. I talk about insulin quite a lot, so if you follow me at all you kind of know where I’m going with this.  Number one, insulin is produced in your pancreas. When the amount of insulin in your bloodstream gets too low diabetes is a result. The symptoms of diabetes is unquenchable thirst, frequent urination, and just general weakness. Insulin also plays a HUGE role in storing fat, but that is a different article.
  • Fifth, if you struggled with weight  issues during anytime in your life you’ve probably at least thought about your thyroid.  Your thyroid can be overactive and it can be under-active but generally you want to be like the little bear, you want it to be just right. If your thyroid is under-active and being lazy you gain weight that you just can’t seem to lose. A lot of times you will also become fatigued easily. On the other hand, if your thyroid is overactive you suffer from weight loss and hair loss.

So what are some solutions to this problem?

If you think your hormones are out of whack you need to talk to a doctor or with a local Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (That is a mouth full). If you have no idea what I’m talking about go to www.bonesandhormones.com .

Some noteworthy things that you can do now do help your body deal with the stress of being out of whack

  • Eat plenty of produce in protein (download my FREE Fat-Loss Guide I break it down there). By that I mean choose to eat fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins.
  • Reduce simple processed foods like candy, cookies, white flour, sugar, and simple starches like chips.
  • Lastly, commit to a well created exercise program that is customized for Just You and then find someone (maybe me 😉 to keep you accountable and to give you support.

In short, taking care of your general health will go a long way to help alleviate a lot of the issues that occur from having your hormones out of whack.

Now go be awesome!
