Correct Your Posture For A Better Life

This week’s challenge is going to be geared towards your posture.

I used to be huge into posture and I judged and critique others for their poor or good posture in my head on a day-to-day basis when I was younger.  Why? Honestly, I have no clue, but I just assumed that if you sat up and had good posture you just looked poised and confident. Which isn’t a bad thing, but having good posture is so much more than being poised and confident, although it is a great benefit.

But the truth is when you have good posture, whether that be standing, running, or just sitting, you’re helping your body function properly and efficiently.

What If You Were A Car?

Think about if you were a car. Would you want your car to be running on low tire pressure? Would you want your car to be misaligned? Of course not!

But for whatever reason, because it’s not our car, because it’s our bodies, we’re okay with having a misaligned back and sitting improperly and putting all this extra pressure on our vertebrae.

Does that make sense? No it doesn’t, but the truth is, if we’re honest, we care more about our cars apparently than we do our bodies. As such, we choose to neglect our bodies by having poor posture.

These are just some of the problems of having bad posture.

  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Limited flexibility and range of motion issues
  • Poor circulation
  • Deterioration of vertebrae
  • Herniated discs
  • I could go on and on, if you’re really curious just Google it.

 

Now the issues listed above don’t seem like fun to me.

But here’s the Good News, by simply being aware of your posture you can dramatically improve your it. I’m not joking, if you’re just cognizant of your posture when you sit, when you walk, and when you stand, it will make a significant impact and improve your posture.

So regardless of what you’re doing, whether that’s playing with your kids, whether that shopping, whether you’re just sitting typing at the computer or playing on Facebook reading this post :-). I want you to pay attention to your posture and how you’re holding your body.

Some Tips

I found this helpful tip but I won’t lie I think it’s a little femine, maybe just put an x on your hand. The tip was, to wear a special bracelet or ring. Then every time you look at it, it will basically remind you to make sure your posture is in check.

Or…maybe you can just set a reminder on your watch or something so that it beeps every hour or maybe have it on your phone so every time you look at your phone you see a picture that reminds you of your posture.

So I guess the takeaway is this. Find something that works and just do it :-).

The question becomes, are you up for this challenge will you pay extra close attention to your posture?

Remember your circulation, your muscles, and all of the above will thank you.
