Celebrate The Ones You Love Challenge!

This week my family and I are at the beach, as such I wanted this week’s challenge to celebrate spending time with people you love and care about.

So, this week’s challenge is all about lifting up and giving back to the people you care most about.

This week, I want you to volunteer your TIME in some form or fashion for the person or people you care most about. I don’t know about you, but for me, time is one of my most coveted and treasured commodities I have.

I am not proud to admit this, but often times, I have time for everyone else…but my family. I treat them like leftovers. Meaning, they will be there once this person or opportunity goes away…NOT COOL!

Listen, I get it, you are busy and you might not feel like you have the time to squeeze in one more thing on your to do list. However, believe it or not, studies have shown that when you MAKE the time to volunteer (in our case assist your loved ones) it actually improves your work-life balance. Plus, on a practical note, we can all find at least 20 minutes to show our favorite people we care, at least one time this week.

This is how I plan to do just that:

  1. Beth, my wife, I am going to watch the kids as soon as breakfast is over and take them on a walk or to the beach so she can do whatever it is she would like to do. Simple right? But guess what? She will LOVE it.
  2. Axel, my oldest, I will send at least 20 minutes just me and him playing the “imagination game.” Basically, I get a blank sheet of paper he draws on it and we make up a story based on his drawings. Once again he loves it! Super personable, just me and him.
  3. Kenna, my youngest and most difficult child ;-). I will send at least 20 minutes doing whatever it is she wants me to do. Which likely means reading the same book 5 times in role or playing with her stuffed animals.

What about you? Who are you going to volunteer your time to? How are you going to do it? Let me know.

Side note, are you away from your loved ones? Maybe at school? There are many organizations that could use your help!  Pick one and volunteer in the traditional sense. Some ideas I found online:

  • Walk dogs at the animal shelter
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen
  • Visit patients at a nursing home
  • Cuddle premature babies in the hospital
  • Swing a hammer and help build houses!
  • Or….set aside 20 minutes to pick up some trash on the side of the road- My dad does this lol 🙂

Go be awesome!

KELLEN LAKE – Don’t waste your time 😉

PS – Let me know who and how.
