What Movements Should I Do To Lose Weight?

The other day I talked about how you need to choose movements that are compound movements, which force you to active large muscle groups and even your stabilizer muscles like your core. The best movements are Squats, Lunges, Deadlifts, Presses, and Pulls. The mistake most people who want to lose weight make when they create their own program is that they focus on isolation movements (Curls, tricep extensions, leg curls, leg extensions, stuff like that).

Today I am going to recommend that you also avoid using machines as a general rule.

Machines aren’t bad necessarily, but they are GREATLY overused. Machines rob your body of gainz. Machines take away most of the work your core and other stabilizing muscles perform by making the movements “easier” and more “comfortable.”

If something is easier, it generally means that you are going to burn less calories and your muscles won’t adapt as fast as if you were using free weights (barbells and dumbbells). Plus, you won’t work your core as much.

So, if your goal is to get fit and lose weight ditch the machines.

There have been countless of studies that validate what I just said, if you want to lose weight and get fit and look like those people that you see in the magazines, you need to pick up barbells and dumbbells.

On a side note, I know that can be a little bit scary. You don’t want to hurt yourself and you don’t want to look stupid doing the movements. Then I strongly suggest you hire a trainer or do a ton of studying on YouTube.

Second side note, if you have medical issues or injuries and all you can use is machines. Do it, it isn’t the end of the world. Doing something beats nothing almost every time.
