What Kind Of Movements Are Best For Losing Weight?

Life can be hard enough without having to navigate through all the weight loss training jargon and misinformation.

It makes me think of when I first learned to drive a car. There were a lot of things that I needed to learn and many obstacles and situations I need to be prepared for when I went on the road. The hardest one, at the beginning was learning to shift gears on a manual transmission. The hardest part about operating a manual transmission is starting from a dead stop…especially on a hill…it is terrifying at first. However, like most things, once you get going, it isn’t that hard. Just like working out, the more information you have AND APPLY! The easier it becomes.

Case in point, when I go into a big commercial gym, I see a lot of people who are trying to lose weight and get…but they are focusing a lot of their time and energy on exercises and movements that aren’t really that helpful for their goal of losing weight. They are all stick in neutral.

If your primarily goal is to lose weight and get fit, you need to focus on performing big compound movements. You need to limit or even stop most isolation movements, especially if you are busy and on a tight schedule.

If you want to have a big overall impact on your overall body, you need to choose movements that address your overall body and not on movements that target small little muscles here or there.

So, if you looking to lose weight and get fit, you want to focus on compound movements.

A compound movement is one where it involves multiple muscle groups. Think of things like a barbell back squat, it works your hamstrings, quads, butt, core, and back.  A dumbbell deadlift works your hamstrings, back, butt, quads, core, and shoulders. In short, lunges, squats, presses, deadlifts should be your bread and butter ;-).

Because remember, you’re trying to affect your overall body, therefore you need to do use movements that use your overall body. You must have a systematic approach when you train that addresses your entire body.

Go be awesome!
