Six Fundamental Truths of Getting and Staying Lean.

I just got off the phone with a supplement salesman who wants me to invest in buying some supplements to sell to my clients. I currently sell ZERO supplements to my clients because the truth of the matter is 99.9% of the supplements out there are just expensive pee and worthless.

In fact, there are only three that I currently recommend, protein, caffeine, and creatine. You can get protein from meat or even protein powder (I use and recommend Quest protein), you can get caffeine from coffee or tea (I like Earl Grey), and creatine you can only get as a supplement but it really isn’t necessary in my opinion. Now if you are a looking to bulk up go for it.

The only reason supplements exist at all is because people don’t want to work to get results. Most people just want to take take a magic pill and, “poof” they are an after picture. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. Even if you took performance enhancing drugs and didn’t workout, you would get any results.

However, there are six fundamental truths that will get you lean, you can thank Michael Matthews for inspiring this list.

  1. More is not always better, when it comes exercising! You need time to rebuild and repair, don’t overtrain.
  2. You must emphasize heavy, compound movements. Skip the high-rep isolation movements if your goal is weight loss.
  3. Getting a “pump” isn’t good or bad and it doesn’t make a workout good or bad. It merely means there is lactic acid in your muscles.
  4. Changing up your routine constantly is a sure way to prevent change. Your body needs a chance to adapt to the stimulus placed under it. Your body needs to get stronger on key compound movements.
  5. You are going to have to work hard, easy workouts don’t do much.
  6. If you chronically undereat, you won’t grow any muscle. If you chronically overeat, you will build muscle, but will gain too much body fat. You need to log your food so you know what what works for you.

Once you nail down those six truths, all you need is patience and persistence.

Go be awesome!
