Scale stopped moving?

Do you freak out when you are eating right and working out and the scale just stops moving down?

If you said, “No” you are either a liar lol, or a dude who is trying to pack on the pounds.

I got a message from one of my clients who was worried because her weight loss had slowed down after the course of 4 weeks. In the first 4 weeks she had lost 10 lbs, which was 7.5% of her total weight, which is really good. Now, in week 5, she has been stuck at the same number all week and she asked me if this was normal.

In short, yes, this is normal. Your body can only lose so much weight safely. Sure, at the beginning if you go really hard you can lose a “quick” 10 – 15 lbs, but generally after that it is grind.

You have to stay consistent with your diet and exercise plan despite how you feel about the scale. You will lose more, but it will take time and consistency.

More example, when I went on my cut diet I lost 10 lbs in a week lol. But after that I actually gained a pound pack and it took me 4 more days to get to 12 lbs lost. Plus, that process will only get slower the closer I get to my ideal weight.

The process of losing weight is up and down.  The secret is to never give up and binge. Most people get stuck, get frustrated, binge, feel guilty, diet hard, get back to where they here 5 days before the binge and repeat. Eliminate the binge and you are good to go 9 times out of 10.

However, if you are truly stuck and doing all the right stuff you have two options.

First, increase the amount of calories you are burning via exercise.

Or…

Second, decrease the amount of calories you are consuming.

Now, to do either one of those with accuracy you will need to know how much you are consuming and how long you are working out. I recommend myfitnesspal for the first and logging your workouts for second.

Regardless, either one will help you break through the plateau. But, my recommendation is that you wait for at least 2 weeks before decreasing your calories. Make sure the scale really isn’t budging and you are honest with what and how much you are eating.

Go be awesome!
