PART 2 – 3 ways to reach your weight loss and fitness potential.

Yesterday we discussed how we innately feel a desire to be and do great things, that potential is always present. But there are things that hold us back, there are things we allow to control us. The first thing we discussed was pride and how we need to be humble, seeking advice and accountability to reach out weight loss and fitness potential.

Today we are looking into the second you need to reach your weight loss and fitness potential. You need to anchor your roots.

All too often we see the newest shiniest object on Facebook, Instagram, or even as archaic as this sounds on an infomercial or in a magazines. We see some guy or girl with six-pack abs looking great and they say, “All I did is followed XYZ program or I consumed XYZ supplement. You can look like me too. Just do what I did.”

So what do you do?

You try that program and you last about 2-3 weeks. Then you see another program or supplement that promises the same thing, but this one seems better and once again you last two or three weeks on that program. Then you see another ad and this time….the SAME THING HAPPENS! That cycle just keeps repeating itself and you never move forward because you keep changing what you are doing. In short, you aren’t rooted into anything!

You need to have a firm foundation built on solid training principles (some are listed below) that are going to get you from point A to point B. Most programs that you quote on quote buy online are generic and not built specifically for you. Now, like I always say, having a plan, is better than no plan, a hundred percent of the time. But you need to stick with that plan. You need to follow through with it and then you need to tweak it as needed, based on what your needs are and how you’re responding to the training. Too often people never develop a firm foundation, they never anchor their roots because they keep jumping from program to program and supplement to supplement.

Don’t fall into that trap! Pick something and stick with it for at least 12 weeks! Once 12 weeks is up, keep what you liked and what worked, and make some modification based on your desire or needs.

Application: Anchor your roots by doing the following

  1. Find or buy a program that is based on resistance (weight) training. It should include squats, lunges, pressing vertically and horizontally, pulling vertically and horizontally. This program should also be designed so that you get progressively stronger over time.
  2. Perform High Intensity Interval Training at the end of your resistance training program. A great place to start is 60 seconds at max effort followed by 90 seconds of rest (think walking pace). Repeat that cycle 3 – 4 times to begin with, around 8 to 10 minutes total.
  3. Download the App called MyfitnessPal, fill out the questions truthfully and do what it says. Not ideal, but for a do it yourself it is ok.
  4. Try to eat mainly protein and produce. One fist of protein, two fists of produce will work ;-).
  5. Try to eat at least 100 grams of protein a day if you are a female and 130 grams if you are male.

Tomorrow we will discuss the third way to reach your weight loss and fitness potential.

Go be awesome!

Kellen Lake – Developed my roots when I was 13 years old ;-)!

PS – Would you like me to create a fitness plan for you to follow at home or in your gym via the Just You Fitness app? I have time to do 3 this weekend and the price would be $50.00 dollars. Set up a Discovery Call so we can discuss by replying or commenting.
