Lose Weight and Enjoy Treats

Well it’s Wednesday and Hurricane Florence is almost here. I have quite a few friends who own property near or on the beach and all the ones I have talked to are worried and rightly so. Actually, I am worried and I don’t even own anything near the beach, but I love going to the beach.

Why? I love the sand, the water, the people watching…in short the entire experience.  Which made me think…what is it about eating treats that people enjoy? Or more importantly, what makes a treat worth it or not worth it?

If you followed my advice from a week ago and tracked your treats, you should have a list with some treats that are amazing and others that are so-so.

The question becomes….Why get fat for so-so?

Get rid of them. Also, if you take a bite of something and it is so-so, stop! You don’t have to finishes it. Save your treats for things you know are amazing and limit the number of servings to the amount you predetermine. Do not just mindlessly munch.

Create awareness by savoring and truly enjoying each and every bite. For example, Beth and I got an ad that allowed us to get a free Pizcookie from BJ’s. A Pizcookie is basically a pizza cookie. It was pretty good and we did not rush the experience. Neither should you, remember you are simply eating this for pleasure, so enjoy it!

Keep this tip in mind as well, change either the portion size or frequency of your favorite treat.

  • This definitely is not hard to grasp, but if you reduce your portion size you will save calories and lose weight.
  • Likewise, if you reduce the frequency you eat the same sized portion of your favorite treat you will lose weight.

Action Step: You need to decide which strategy works best for you.

Instead of 3 scoops of ice cream every time, you only have 1.5 scoops or instead of having 3 scoops everyday you only have 3 scoops every other day. Less treats in either portion or frequency will slowly get you to where you want to go.

Lastly, find other forms of fun and relaxation ;-)! Sometimes we use treats to escape or even for “me – time.” Try to find other ways to treat yourself and replace food with doing something.

Go be awesome!

KELLEN LAKE – Enjoy your favorite treats 😉

PS – I am in Week 1 of 5 for my, Get Fit For the Beach Program. I have lost .5 lbs since yesterday ;-). Plus, it has been pretty easy.  Getting lean is easy when I come home to a dinner with high quality ingredients that is ready to go in 2 minutes. www.Just4You Meals.com,  does all the prep work which saves me at least an hour. Plus, it saves me time, gas, and money because I don’t have to go the grocery store.  The menu options are diverse. All these things make getting lean on a busy schedule much easier. Check it out, orders close on Wednesday at Midnight.

PSS – Also, check out this week’s awesome Kid’s Menu. If you are too busy for school lunches, this is your ticket to easy street ;-).

If you are a healthy conscious mom, get the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Perfectly grilled chicken breast served on Ciabatta Bread with cucumbers, tomato, and lettuce. This will make the whole family smile.

If you have a stubborn child, the classic Macaroni and Cheese is even hard for them to refuse. Penne pasta, mixed with low fat Alfred

o sauce, topped with low fat shredded Cheddar. This will make you drool ;-).

If you have a playful child they will love the Pinwheel lunch box.  Organic turkey, tomatoes, american cheese and cream cheese all wrapped up in a lovely whole wheat wrap. Served with apples and grapes.

The kid still won’t eat? There is always pizza ;-)! Plus, they get the choice of Pepperoni or Cheese. And these are portioned controlled and only come out to 395 or 445 calories. They will love it and so should you ;-).
