Can YOU go Grain Free for a WEEK?

So…this week’s challenge can be rough, but if your goal is to drop some weight it is totally worth it. This week we are going to say, “NO” to refined or processed goods.

I just heard you gasp ;-), in the beginning this will seem a little daunting, but instead of thinking how hard it will be, I want you to think how accomplished you will feel when you finish. Chances are you will be a little lighter and you will have more energy. In short, you will feel much better ;-).

I believe this will help you so much I am willing to do 25 burpees in your honor if you stick to it and don’t feel more energetic.

All that being said, one slice of bread is not the end of the world…however, when you supplement bread with Little Debbies, cookies, cake, and other baked goods on the regular it starts to take a toll on your body.

This is what the research has to say on this topic.

When grains are refined and/or processed the fiber is taken out them (most baked goods, even “whole wheat” varieties). This means when you consume refined or processed baked goods you absorb them quickly, which makes your blood sugar spike (one of the primary reasons for “belly fat”). To make matters worse, after that spike, you then experience a blood sugar crash, which results in intense cravings and makes you feel lethargic.

As such, fiber is your friend and food that contains fiber is always a better choice…especially if you are watching your mid section. Foods that have lots of fiber will help you feel fuller longer and help keep your blood sugar at bay. Both wins if your goal is weight loss.

So, the challenge this week is to eliminate anything with refined grains which includes but is not limited to bread, cookies, cakes, and other baked goods.

Here are a few items you can substitute with –

  • Ezekiel bread for sandwiches or toast
  • Lettuce wraps
  • Cauliflower pizza crust

Who is with me?

Go be awesome!
