ARE YOU ALWAYS TIRED?
Are you always tired? You could be part of the estimated 80% who suffer from adrenal fatigue!
This last week, I was especially tired. I doubt it was adrenal fatigue ;-), pretty sure it was just the time change. Regardless, experts believe that about 80% of the western world will be affected by adrenal fatigue at some point in their life. That means the chances are pretty high, you, at one time will suffer from it…I find that kind of scary.
So, with the help of Wikipedia, I dig a little and this is what I discovered. The adrenal glands are located near the kidneys and they secrete more than 50 kinds of hormones. Just to name a few, your adrenal glands secrete testosterone, cortisol, adrenaline, and like I said, many more. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or an MD to figure out that these are important hormones and it’s vital that they function optimally for you to sustain a healthy energetic life, as well as regulate how much fat you’re storing.
In regards to adrenal fatigue, these same glands also help you deal with stress.
But here’s the kicker.
Under prolonged periods of stress or chronic illness, your adrenal glands start to perform poorly. Essentially, they become overworked and overused and start to break down like an old car.
In short, they become tired…and as a result you feel tired. This becomes a vicious cycle, you experience stress, your adrenal glands get overwhelmed, you feel tired, which results in more stress and the cycle continues…and the end result, if nothing is done about it, is adrenal fatigue.
According to the Mayo Clinic and Todd B. Nippoldt, M. D. here are some of the symptoms of those who suffer adrenal fatigue.
- Fatigue (Shocker…I know)
- Body aches
- Unexplained weight loss… (Yes please! Okay bad joke.)
- Low blood pressure
- Loss of body hair
- Skin discoloration
- Morning fatigue
- Mid-afternoon sleepiness
- Weight gain, especially around the waist
And as any great infomercial would say, “If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you could be suffering from adrenal fatigue.” The fact is many, if not most Americans can at least say, “Yes” to one of the above. As such make sure to read tomorrow’s post, I will tell you how you can treat it :-).
Go be awesome!
