3 Reasons Why You Fail To Get Fit.
What kind of seed are you? What kind of fitness seed are you?
Disclaimer, this awesome little parable is modified from an even awesomer parable from Jesus in the Bible ;-). This is how it goes.
One day, a farmer was throwing seeds out into the field and one of the seeds landed on the walking path and the birds saw it and instantly ate it up.
Another seed, fell on a rocky place that didn’t have much soil. It sprang up and grew really quickly, but when the sun came out it scorched the plant and it died because it had nothing to anchor its roots into.
Another seed, landed in a bunch of thorns. It too grew up quickly, but the thorns soon choked the poor plant out.
Lastly, a seed landed on good soil. There it grew and produced a great crop.
Neat little story right, but what does it mean? Great question, the disciples asked Jesus the same thing.
Jesus said, regarding the first seed that landed on the path that it represents someone who hears about the kingdom of God, but doesn’t understand it. This is when the Evil one comes and snatches away what was growing in the hearers heart. Most people suffer the same fate on their fitness journey. They hear about fitness and weight loss, but they don’t take the time to understand it. Instead, they run over to the supplement shop and buy a “fat-loss cure” hoping that will give them a six pack. These people are buying into the lie that getting fit and lean is easy and doesn’t take work.
The seed that fell on the rocky path, is someone who hears about Jesus and at once rejoices! But this person only last a little while. As persecution or trails come up, they quit. These are the January resolutionists lol, they show up to the gym super motivated to get fit and lose weight! They actually do really good for about 2 – 3 weeks. But as some as the scale stops moving, as soon as chicken breast starts to taste like rubber, as some as they gain back half a pound they become like snowflakes…they disappear, never to be seen again until next January.
The seed that fell among the thorns has a similar ending. This person hears about Jesus but gets so caught up in the worries of life and the deceitfulness of wealth that s/he gets choked out and is unfruitful. These people represent the seed that fell among the thorns. They start out like a ball of fire on their fitness journey, but because they don’t have a plan or accountability, they get choked out my “other priorities,” they allow the business of life to win and come up with 100’s of reasons why they can’t make it work. Sadly, they quickly burn out and quit.
The last seed however, is a person who hears about Jesus, understands the message, and then follows Jesus and produces fruit. Likewise, this person follows their fitness and weight loss plan, has accountability, sticks with it through trials, temptations, and plateaus and even influences others to join them.
So, I ask you again. Which seed are you?
Go be awesome!
