YOU WILL HATE ME :-(

WEEKLY Challenge…No…CAFFEINE!

Most of you just died a little bit inside.

Truth be told, I just died a little bit inside. I drink at least two cups of coffee a day. Normally just out of habit, it’s just because I like to have something to do with my hands and my mouth. Plus having something warm down my tummy makes me feel a little bit fuller.

But here’s the thing, relying on caffeine as an artificial way to get a little pick-me-up isn’t the healthiest thing you can do for yourself.

Which is exactly why this week we’re going to cut out all or some of your caffeine intake.

Don’t go freaking out. Caffeine is a natural stimulant. Plus caffeine has even been shown to have some healthy benefits. Some of which include improving your memory and focus…if you have the right amount. Which basically equals 1 to 2 cups of coffee, a day.

Now if you have more than you need and you rely on it to get you through your day to day is it a tool, or is it more of a crutch?

Chances are it’s more of a crutch, if it’s something you have to have then you are dependent upon it, that isn’t a good place to be.

Caffeine stimulates your central nervous system, but having more than you need leads to nervousness and irritability, high blood pressure, erratic heartbeat, even upset stomach, it can even cause muscle tremors. Not all that stuff is ideal obviously.

What am I supposed to do instead?

Why don’t you try getting some fresh air 🙂 or have a nice big cup of cold water. Better yet, you could do 15 air squats or push-ups :-).

Now here comes the not-so-cool part. If you’re used to having a lot of caffeine on a day-to-day basis the chances of you getting a headache and feeling sluggish when you go cold turkey go up exponentially. If that describes you I suggest you just limit the amount of caffeine and kind of sluggishly go off of it over the course of the week. Don’t go cold turkey because you’ll get a headache and you’ll become sluggish.

So who’s in? This is going to be a little rough for me, it’s going to be a little rough for you, let’s do it :-).

Go be awesome!

KELLEN LAKE – Moving to one cup this week.

PS – Anyone NOT consume caffeine on a daily basis? What do you drink instead? Let me know.
