Weekly Challenge: Are You Up To It?

A huge heads up!

This weeks challenge will seem weird. That being said, I personally have performed this habit/practice daily for almost 5 years and it has helped me IMMENSELY in almost every aspect of my life and I bet it will do the same for you ;-)!

I want you to keep a journal (paper or electronic)

This is not all about detailing your daily life, at least not more me. It’s more about reflecting and documenting where I am and what I am doing. Asking myself, how can a grow, how can a get better with God, family, and people and writing down what I am grateful for.

I am going to list some reasons why I think you should give Journaling a try this week.

  1. Writing down your thoughts helps create awareness and mindfulness. It helps you slow down and really think about what is going on.
  2. Writing down your thoughts also gives you some perspective. When you document your thoughts, your emotions, and what’s going on inside of you, it allows you to step back and see a bigger picture. When you see the bigger picture it helps you see where you are at and if you really are telling yourself the truth. Sometimes, we lie to ourselves :-)…sometimes.
  3. Writing down your thoughts on a daily basis builds self discipline and increases your self confidence. Creating this habit and sticking to it isn’t the easiest thing ever, but if helps you develop discipline and discipline leads to an increase in confidence in yourself which is invaluable.
  4. Writing down your thoughts helps you vent and cool down….let’s be honest, we have all been there.
  5. Writing down your thoughts helps you remember how you have grown over the past. For example a year ago my wife and I were looking for house and it was stressful. I had honestly forgotten how bad it was until I skimmed my old notes in my computer (Yes, I journal via text to talk on my computer). It was cool to see where God had taken us since that time.

Tip: If you find it hard to sit down and write something, I suggest you open up the Bible to the book of Proverbs, read a verse and paraphrase it into your own words. What does this verse mean? How can I apply it to my life? Who can I share this with? Even if it is only 5 minutes, you will get better at it just like any other habit :-). Or simply write down three things you are grateful for every day.

So who is in? Let me know 🙂

Go be AWESOME!

KELLEN LAKE – Start journaling!

PS – Please…JUST DO IT!
