The Story Of The Two Wolves…

The Story Of The Two Wolves…

Which Will You Feed?

When I was about 13-14 years old I was training in a-hole-in-the-wall “gym” in Brazil. My parents were missionaries there for over 20 years. Anyway, there was an incident at the gym that I found morally difficult to say, “no” too. So I talked to my dad about what had occurred and how hard it was for me to say, “no.”

This is the story he told me.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. ‘A fight is going on inside me,’ he said to the boy.

‘It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.’ He continued, ‘The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, ‘Which wolf will win?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’

How this relates to training, fat-loss, and life!

It’s easy to forget we’ll never reach our goals (training, fat-loss, career, family, etc) without hundreds, maybe thousands of little victories and…mistakes/failures. The key is to remember, that every victory stacks on top of another. Your victories ARE linear, they progressively go up over time. This is the “Good Wolf.” The more you dwell on your victories and allow yourself to celebrate these little milestones, the bigger and stronger the “Good Wolf” becomes. The opposite is also true, if only dwell on the mistakes and failures you are sabotaging yourself. Doing so makes the “Evil Wolf” bigger, stronger, and faster.

You have two options.

  1. FEED THE GOOD WOLF! Focus on habits, like the ones I teach my clients. This allows you to see how many habits you have changed, how many pounds, inches, or body fat percentages you have lost, etc…By focusing and dwelling on these you have something to celebrate and focus on!

Or….

  1. Feed the Evil Wolf…only focus on how far you have to go, you’re not “good enough” yet, training and “dieting” is hard, and it will take a long time. Do that and you will become prophetic and doom yourself.

Choose Wisely!

Now go be awesome!
