A quick tip and a way to think about Fat Loss!

I will start with the quick tip. On Monday I talked about detox baths. For those who accepted the challenge to take one detox bath, I wanted to hook you up with some other great recipes. Check out this article with 10 detox bath recipes: www.draxe.com/detox-bath-recipes. You’ll even have a lot of these ingredients at home! Which one sounds the best to you?

Now my thoughts on how to think and practice fat-loss and fat-loss workouts.

They way the fitness industry has been pushing “weight loss” is often complicated and hard. Eat this, don’t eat that. Take this supplement, don’t take this supplement. Do this kind of workout, don’t this kind of workout, etc. It’s hard just to filter through all the noise. What has been trendy, is really hard, long lasting workouts, coupled with really hard diet plans. I will say there is a season when both of those are good ideas, but for a sustainable life long model to live by, it doesn’t work. You will burn out and stop. I am guilty of this and I had to learn the hard way :(. There are seasons in sports for a reason, there are seasons of life for a reason. You must think long term, not short term.

I love workout intensity, it is an extremely powerful and beneficial tool, but it is often overused, as I said, I am guilty of this. The above is not a “Smart System.” You can’t drive your car like you stole it and expect it to last. Likewise, you can’t diet and train your body like a stolen car or it will give up. You must learn to train “Smart.”

Going hard all the time is bad, even though it looks and feels super sexy…for at least the first month or two. By going hard all the time you burn out, quit, lose motivation, or even get hurt. Basically you stop getting stronger, which means you stop gaining muscle, which means your metabolism goes down, which leads to FAT GAIN. That is exactly the opposite of what we are going for right?

Instead, when you create a truly “sexy” fat-loss workout plan, key word PLAN. You create cycles of easy, medium, and hard workouts that are all geared to get you a little bit stronger, which gets you a little bit fitter, which gets you little bit more muscle, which burns a little bit more fat (because that’s the goal right?). Plus, because you are cycling through easy, medium, and hard workouts you aren’t killing yourself and making your life miserable…you are actually making it better. Why? Because it is sustainable and doable in real life! Chances are you are not a bodybuilder, nor do you want to look like one, chances are you are not an elite athlete (by the way they have off-seasons too, think about it). You have a life and you want to look and feel lean, strong, and sexy.

In Conclusion, at the most basic level real fat-loss involves two things:
1. Making really small changes to your diet, which leads to sticking with it long term (I walk clients through 1, maybe 2 habits a month, 11 total).
2. Creating a “Smart” workout plan for getting stronger.

If you need help with either one, let me know.

Now go and be awesome!
