Memorial Day – Do You Take Your Life For Granted?

Memorial Day: Do You Act Like A Fish?

This past week we celebrated Memorial Day. Memorial Day was originally established so that we could honor the people who died in the Civil War. However, as the custom develop into a tradition that became what we know as Memorial Day. The day where we chose to remember all the soldiers who died serving our country.

As such, Memorial Day is a great time to sit back and contemplate how much we owe those men and women who sacrificed their lives so that we could enjoy the freedom we now get to celebrate. So often we, yes myself, included live as if our freedom didn’t come with the price. It is so easy to take our freedom and others sacrifices for granted. Rarely do we ever think about our freedom, much less appreciate the sacrifice of these men and women.

Our freedom and the liberties that we enjoy are just our way of our life because of what these men and women did for us. An analogy that I found, that I think illustrates this well is a fish. We’re just like fish, we don’t even know that were free, in the same way a fish doesn’t even realize it’s wet, cuz that’s all it’s ever known. In the same way we don’t understand the magnitude and the privilege that is ours, we are free because of the sacrifice of the men and women who came before us.

In short it takes Warriors to build a place, to build a country where freedom is normative, rather than the exception. Memorial Day is a day where we choose to honor the men and women who have fallen, to honor the Wounded Warriors who have made our lives and freedom possible.

With that in mind…

Why Do Warriors fight?

If an enemy is not confronted and dealt with s/he wins and noble causes suffer. If the men and women who came before us did not fight for our liberty…chances are we wouldn’t have any.

So what about you? What is your enemy? And what do you need to fight against in regards to your fitness and health? Typically your enemy is an unhealthy lifestyle, a lack of physical activity, maybe both and this sedentary lifestyle/habit is slowly killing you and robbing you of your freedom!

It’s a silent killer.

Just like the illustration with the fish, if your way of life is sedentary and unhealthy, it’s your status quo, its your water. You don’t know any different.  You sit around and watch TV, eat loads of desserts and processed foods and don’t know, suppress, or maybe even ignore that fact that you are slowly killing yourself :-(. You casually grab the donut, you contemplate exercising maybe on the weekends, but the other six or five days of the week you just sit there and play on your phone or watch Netflix. And slowly…but surely you start to become overweight, your blood pressure starts to go up, you start having to take medication.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the exception.  It’s becoming the norm in the United States.

You Need To Be a Warrior and Fight the Status Quo!

The first thing you need to ask yourself and contemplate is your willingness to fight! Are you ready to take a stand and change your life? I hope and pray you are. No one can do it for you, I wish I could ;-). You can get help, but at the end of the day, when you are alone in the house it is up to you to show up to your training and resist the Doritos and/or Little Debbies.  

I get it, what I am asking you to do isn’t easy nor is to always fun…but…it could save your life maybe even extend it so you can see your great grand kids ;-).

I am behind you! I want to encourage and support you to become the greatest person you are capable of becoming, both physically and mentally. It DOES NOT matter what your track record is, nor does it matter how far you have to go. You can do this ;-). Start TODAY.
