How many times have you wanted to give up?

Admiration for a command is not the same as following it.

I can’t even count the number of times in my personal and fitness journey that I have felt like giving up. To be totally honest, I’d be willing to bet that the hard days, those uphill battle days easily outweigh the number of easy ones.

And the funny thing is I know what I should do. The hard part is executing what I know I should do. Can you relate to that?

I’m sure you can. We all know eating fast food and overly processed foods isn’t a great idea. But yet, we continue to eat them because they are easy and convenient. So, like I said, knowing what we ought to stop isn’t the problem, it’s doing / executing what we need to do that becomes the sticking point.

I’ve learned over the, “Long Haul,” that, “spectacular results come from very unspectacular daily battles.” I don’t know who to credit that quote with, but it is so true. The people who are successful professionally and in regards to Fitness are those people who persist regardless of the struggle.

I think we can all think of someone in our lives who characterized this never-say-die attitude.

When I think of this person I think of my dad. At the age of 30, my Dad decided to leave behind a success construction business and to become a missionary and move his family to Brazil. Crazy idea right?

There were a lot of people who criticize my dad for this decision. It wasn’t an easy decision, but my dad knew what he ought to do. And instead of sitting back, he took action and executed his plan and moved he, my brother, and my mom to Brazil. Was it easy once we got to Brazil? Heck no! It was actually extremely difficult. Not knowing the language, not knowing the traditions, the list could go on and on.

But my dad chose to do the right thing regardless and he persisted and he struggled and as a result there is now a thriving Bible School in the very center South America. That is now, pretty much run by his former students. Talk about a legacy! All because my dad chose to do what he knew he ought to do.

What about you?

When you come to a cross in the road, regarding what’s best and what’s easiest I pray that you choose the struggle. Because there is generally a direct correlation between the struggle and what’s best.

Go be awesome!

KELLEN LAKE – When you come to the intersection of “what’s best” and “what’s easiest,” choose the struggle.

PS – Yes, I speak both English and Portuguese : ).
