Keep me accountable….! What does that look like?

“Keep me accountable!”

When I sit down with clients at a success session we talk about various items and I ask quite a few questions. When I ask the clients what is the most important way I can help them succeed 50% of the time they say, “Keep me accountable.”

Seems simple right? I then ask them, “What does that look like?” This is generally when I hear crickets as they ponder what to say next. They either don’t know what that means in a practical since or more often than not they are considering whether they want to reveal their “deep dark secret.” The truth is most of us know what to do and how to do it (mostly). The problem comes in the application, in the doing. Most of us also know what we struggle with the most and what we need accountability with the most, but…we don’t want to admit our weakness or “safe-place.” Why? Because than we are vulnerable and our excuse is out in the open. That is a scary proposition!

We want to live a safe comfortable life, where our secrets remain unnamed and unknown. However, when someone wants to lose body fat and make an amazing transformation it requires that they become vulnerable and authentic and…bring their “secrets” out into the light. So what does accountability look like?

How I offer accountability.

At Just You Fitness Winston-Salem I provide accountability in customized ways based the needs and desires of clients, because at the end of the day, it’s Just about THEM. That being said, for 90% of my clients accountability looks like this.

  • Creating a weekly meal plan. Some clients use a session a week for us to sit down and create meal plan. Others, I just teach it to them and then we review it once a week and I grade it.
  • The first you weigh in, yep, scary, but beneficial
  • The second week you get measured
  • The third week you get a body-fat caliper text
  • Keeping a food log
