Focus On Moving Forward!

Are You Paralyzed?

So often in life, we get paralyzed and consumed with our past. We focus on what we said, what we did, or what we didn’t do.

And the not so funny thing is…we can’t even change what we did in the past, but we enable it and let it stop us from moving forward in the present.

We become so self-consumed and conscious of our past actions that we enable it to stop our forward momentum. Don’t let that happen!

A little about my past and story about a guy named Paul.

As some of you know, I got my Masters of Divinity, which is a 98 credit hour master’s degree in counseling and in theology.  As a direct result of that degree I am going to introduce you to a guy named Paul.

So the story of today comes from a guy by the name of Paul. When we are first introduced to Paul he is a really bad dude. Basically, he took it upon himself to seek out others, who had beat them and throw them into prison for leaving their traditional religion.

Practically this means, Paul went door to door and found new converted Christians and would beat them and lock them up…sometimes even killing them. In his mind this was an act of treason to what he believed to be the true way.

Crazy right? However, later in life, long story short, the Bible tells us of his miraculous encounter with God and completely did a 180.

Paul goes from persecuting Christians, to becoming a Christian and arguably becoming one of the most influential Christians of all time.  Paul says…”forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the Heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus is calling…”

Does that sound like a guy who let his past paralyze him and enslave him?

I don’t think so. It sounds like a guy who became so motivated and so focused on moving forward that he did not allow the past to impede him and stop him from reaching the goal that he believed he was called too.

What about you?

I want to challenge you, if you resolve to do nothing else I want you to learn to always move forward! Don’t stop, don’t become paralyzed in the past, focus on your goal and what is ahead and keep moving forward.

Yes…trials and screw-ups are in your future. As they are in my future. But as long as we keep moving forward, we will never fail, we will learn from our mistakes and we will grow.

Go be awesome!
