The dream is becoming a reality…it only took 20 years : ).

Good Morning, I was going through old posts and I found this one. I won’t lie, I am still amazed it happened. If you continuously pursue your goal, it’s crazy what can happen.

Goals and continuous effort!

When I think about where I began (Chapada Dos Guimaraes, Brazil) and where I am going (Opening a Private Personal Training Studio) I still can’t believe. If I could go back in time and tell my 13 year old self this was going to be a reality I would have said, “That is awesome, but there is no way that will happen.” But as time passed and I continued to do what I loved it became a reality. You can do the same thing.

As a said, I started training when I was 13. When I was 14 a “gym” opened up in the little town near where I lived. I thought I was in heaven! The first time I went there I saw some MONSTERS! These dudes were huge and I was in ah. I too wanted to get huge, so what did I do? I did everything they did…minus the pharmaceuticals. I lifted heavy and used uncomfortable free weights as a result I got much bigger. Unfortunately, being big and looking strong is not the same as being strong. As I soon found out once we got access to the internet…don’t laugh.

When I was 15 I thought I was a pretty big bad dude.

That all came to an end when I searched for weight lifting records. To say I was far from the mark would be a huge understatement. Plus, at this point in my life I was thinking about how I was going to pay for college. My parents were Missionaries, I knew they would help as much as they could, but I also new they couldn’t afford much. So, as I saw it, I had two options. One, I could enlist with the military. Two, I could get a Football scholarship (yep in my mind it was that simple).

Right now you are probably thinking, “You played Football in Brazil?” and the answer to that question is, NO, never. But I had heard from people who had come down to visit us say I would be great, so in my mind, I would great (Prideful…proudly).

Now I had a long term goal and motivation…get a scholarship to play Football.

This is when I started to train more like an athlete. I stopped trying to get beach muscles and instead started to train to get powerful muscles. I still did some really stupid things, but I didn’t know then what I know now. Lucky for me I was committed to my long term long…getting a scholarship.

As luck would have, when I was 17, halfway through my Junior year of High School, I got that opportunity. I was able to go live with my Aunt and Uncle in Drummond, Montana. I played my Senior year, it was a small rural school. My graduating class was only 23 students and we played 8 man football. But guess what, I ended up getting that Football scholarship to attend Montana State University Northern. I went on to be a First Team All-Conference Offensive Linemen. Another story for another day.

Moral of the story, long term thinking and continuous effort will get you results and teach you life lessons.

What is your long term goal? Let me know by commenting below…this will also help keep you accountable.

Now go and be awesome!
