Anxious, Stressed, Need To Relax, Only Have 10 Minutes?
Practice Breathing for 10 Minutes a Day
Feeling tired, stressed, maybe even overwhelmed?
If so, taking 10 minutes to breathe can greatly help you calm your body. Yes, I do understand that all of us breathe…but this challenge has to do with how you breathe.
This may catch some of you by surprise, but I have practiced Yoga on and off for a while. I mainly do it for recovery from a hard workout and stay nimble. However, a tool I learned from Yoga was how to breathe to relax your body and mind.
Practionaries of Yoga claim “yoga breathing” or Pranayama helps jerk your body out of its fight-or-flight mode. Which will help you relax more and feel more at eaze. Both big wins if your life is crazy busy.
So…How to perform “Yoga Breathing.”
- It is best to lay down on your back. I like to keep my knees bent, but do what feels the most comfortable.
- Slightly open your mouth and inhale slowly…I mean really slowly. You should feel your chin raise a little bit. You should breathe in for about 5 – 7 seconds, nice and easy.
- Then exhale through your nose for about 3 – 4 seconds (about half as long). While exhaling your chin should return to its original starting position.
- Repeat that cycle for 10 minutes and then wonder why you never developed this habit before.
To simple and easy to be true?
Not at all ;-)! After a couple breaths your body will begin to relax and your thoughts will begin to slow down. This habit can be a great tool to acquire…and use…in a world where we suffer from sleep disturbances, anxiety, and sometimes anger.
The Challenge this week is to practice Yoga breathing for 10 minutes every day.
Go be awesome!
